Support another Rachel.

I’ve mentioned many times that I’ve worked in the cancer field for most of my adult life and thus it should be obvious I have a special hatred for that disease in all its forms, including the blood-borne varieties like leukemia. Rachel Pereira, a very nice blogger I’ve “known” for a long time, is training to run in a marathon this January to raise money for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma research and patient services.

I want to help her do that, so I already donated and am letting you know about it in case you’re feeling like getting behind a good cause, too. Details are on her post about it and here.

Her goal is only $2,400 by December and I sincerely hope she makes it. Yay for Rachel P.! I admit, I’m too lazy and un-athletic to ever get involved physically in these sorts of things so the best I can do is fund someone else’s sweat and hard work.

And by the way, some of you actually funded my donation in a roundabout way (if you ever bought stuff from my Zazzle store) because I just got paid from Zazzle, and after sending the proceeds from the Short Bus gear to the Patriot Riders ($50), I still had a chunk of other proceeds left, and I decided to always use all my Zazzle proceeds on charity-type stuff. So bam! Rachel gave me the perfect use for that this month. See, even the Saddest Bee can fight cancer.

Good luck mi amiga Raquel! I’m rooting for you.

I proudly wear the ‘Short Bus’ tee, although I have to take it off every time I want to eat a curry (which is often - I normally wear black T-shirts and so I have to worry about the stains - if anyone knows how to get curry stains out, please let me know!).

I’ll head over there - I can’t contribute much this month, but I’ll be able to give more between now and December.

Heh, first comment! I am SO easily pleased.

And probably very, very pathetic. I’m definitely going to have to step up my game if I’m ever going to win that Chuck Norris Gusset Award.

It’s OK though - my printer’s fucked at the moment, so even if I won, I wouldn’t be able to print out the pic and put it on the wall as an interesting conversation point.

Rachel, you rawk! Thanks for the love!

  4. maya Says:

How come you get to say her name? TLaT SarahK scrubbed her site of the R word.

also this comment doesn’t make any sense with Ms. P making a comment in her real name, but I’m still curious.

I’ve only done 1/2 marathons and the like, although I do participate in the Susan Komen Race for the Cure each year. It’s a worthy cause and I’ll be glad to donate.

  6. DAve Says:

Hey your website isn’t opening with ie right. When this happened to everyone else (Belmont, lgf, etc…) it was a problem with sitemeter
    just so’s ya know-

Hey Wachel, if your ever want to support yourself with your blog than giving away your proceeds is not the way to do it! But I think it’s really cool anyway.

    Maya,
Rachel Lucas can call me whatever she wants to! :)

And I commented as RP instead of wRitErsbLock since she called me out as such.

    OT:

Rachel, is something wrong with you blog or are you being hacked? Twice yesterday and twice again today, when I’ve tried to open your page, I get an error message dialog box that reads, “Internet Explorer can not open http://rachellucas.com. Operation Aborted.”

It opened properly the third time but given your justified criticism of Obama, something smells fishy…

  10. 14 Karat Says:

IE7 back up and running RCHL.
    KTHXBAI.

EDIT: Maybe not so much. I posted the original comment in IE7, then it crashed and I couldn’t get back on. Edit in Firefox.

WTF??? This sucks for you, RCHL.

Oh, and a donation will be made in the name of SaraSue.

I’m getting the same problem. It only appears to be on the main page. Might be some error with the Obama-Roll article. Something in the embedding perhaps? Since it appears to only be the front page and not other pages.

EDIT: Yeah the crashing problem is related to the previous post. Its page does the same thing, but this one and the olympic swimmer’s post don’t.

  12. Nicki Fellenzer Says:

I had the same problem. It appears to be fixed now.

  13. mhuete Says:

    DearRachel,

problem is not fixed because I get the same thing. I got to this page by quickly hitting the link at the bottom of the first post before IE could crash.

I thought it was my Navy computer protecting me from un-PC web pages, but since other commenters have also gotten crashed, I guess it’s something to do with your site.

I’ve had the same problem, but I’m using Firefox now, which doesn’t suffer the same sort of error.

  15. Technomad Says:

I’ve been having the same problem; rightnow, I’m using Firefox, which doesn’t seem affected. I e-mailed Herself to give her a heads-up.

  16. pete in Midland Says:

removing the video seems to have cured it … here I was trying to make security changes thinking the sitemeter idiots were at it again …

edit … spoke too soon, still getting locked up when I try to go anywhere else. Is this some nefarious plot to keep eyes on RachelLucas at all times, LOL?

  17. maggie33076 Says:

    Hey Rachel,

I’m heading over to Rachel P.’s site now; we lost a friend to the hellish bitch called multiple myeloma (he was only 41), so I’m more than happy to support any effort to kill it.

    Thanks for the opportunity.

  18. Nicki Fellenzer Says:

    My problem is back. :-(

I think that problem is separate from the crashing problem.

  20. minero Says:

Hi Rachel, same problem as buzzion. Yesterday I could not get to the site except on random occasions. If I did then it locked up and had to exit IE7. When I did that a message came up saying the window was busy. It appears that removing the video allows IE7 to get to your site, but then locks up and I still get the message when I close the browser.

I downloaded Firefox last evening. There is no problem using that browser. At first I thought this was Sitemeter again but you appear to be the only site affected. Anyway I shall use Firefox for now. This is a pain for you I am sure.

  21. wRitErsbLock Says:

I’ve had no problems in either firefox here at work or safari on my mac at home

Thank you to all who have donated to my Team in Training campaign. Youse guys are awesome!

I work as a nurse extern in a hematology oncology unit. It is amazing what some people go through to fight this disease! It is also very sad to see the outcome at times.

Awesome, Rachel P. You will have my support! (not the running part, but monetarily)
